The next great poly slogan

It ain't a movement if it ain't got good slogans. A while back I posted about poly T-shirts, buttons, and other personal-media displays. Some are cool, some are cool but obscure, some are cool but too long, and some are just off-target or confusing.

Diana Adams, poly-activist lawyer and community organizer, has put out a call for a better T-shirt slogan (requires Facebook login, and scroll down to "I have a challenge..."). Here's your chance to make poly history — by inventing the most brilliant, witty, memorable, and chest-friendly declaration ever of what we're about. It has to have viral potential. People have to want to display it. (And you have to let Diana use it.)

You can enter by posting in the comments below. Some early entries:

POLYAMORY: We're all in this together. [That's mine.]

Open minds. Open hearts. Open love.

The more love you give, the more you have to give.

Polyamory: Love makes the world go 'round, and 'round, and 'round...

There's nothing more beautiful than loving someone... except loving two people.

Polyamory: Free your loves.

Share the love – there's more where that came from!

Hey Diana, is there a prize?

P. S. Time's running short to plan and announce your Poly House Party Weekend get-together June 3, 4, or 5. No event you put on is too big or too small, people just gotta have fun.

  1. Hey Alan! Thanks for posting this. Diana put the call out because Open Love NY (www.openloveny.com) is going to have a table at the Folsom Street East festival (http://www.folsomstreeteast.org/) on June 19 and that got us started on thinking about giveaways.

So whoever comes up with a slogan that we can use on a t-shirt will not only have pride of authorship, but also receive a free t-shirt, a 2011 membership bracelet, and public recognition at the next event they might attend. How's that? :)

  2. How about "Highly Available"

the IT company that originally made these is out of business.

  3. Is there a public link to her call for a slogan?
I am logged into FB, but it looks like her posts are only visible to her friends.

  4. I'm not on facebook, so I can't respond there. My favorite tagline is "Polyamory. You wish you were me."

  6. What about the traditional I <3 NY except with the infinity heart? That would be pretty cool for a NYC event.

  7. Alan, you're great! Thanks for spreading the information. I already asked for Diana's friendship on FB and sent her some proposals (I made a lot of slogans in Portuguese but puns don't translate easily, so I had to recreate them):

    Love is not love ties.
    Love doesn't hinder love.
Our heart has room for a love storey.
    Love radiates.

  8. "The more you love, the more you can love--and the more intensely you love. Nor is there any limit on how many you can love. If a person had time enough, he could love all of that majority who are decent and just."

  9. Polyamory: Because you deserve custom made relationships.

    Or simply,

    "And", not "Or".

  10. I like:
Love: not a zero sum game

    Polyamory: the cure for mono-agony

Polyamory: capitalising on the ultimate renewable resource!

Poly: having the evening alone 'cos your lovers are having dinner together.

    [heart symbol] =/= <3 (line break) [heart symbol]= 2<+/-

  11. Keep it simple, and don't put the word "polyamory" in the slogan. You want people to ask what it means, not roll their eyes.

    My suggestion: "Love more."

  12. There are a bunch of slogans at Poly Tees (www.polytees.com), already conveniently formatted for a t-shirt

  13. I'm not seeing the "I have a challenge" thing, probably because she's made her fakebook page friends-only. If she'd really like to get some input, she should make it public, or create a public group, or just generally make a public (and answerable) post SOMEWHERE.

  14. I very much miss the Question Monogamy shirts (seen here: http://www.polyandproud.com/images/gallery/03.jpg) that polyandproud.com came out w/ years ago...

  15. I have also tried to friend Diana of FB but to no avail--hoping I can put my suggestion here and it will get to the right place?

  16. Hi all,
This IS the public call for slogans - we'll include any suggestions posted here for consideration. As I said in my first reply above, Open Love NY is looking for an original t-shirt slogan to use. Thanks for Alan for posting this!

The Open Love NY organizing committee will pick some finalists and we'll have members vote for the winner at an upcoming meeting.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

  17. P.S. - so if you want the prizes and recognition, you have to identify yourself as the author of the winning slogan, of course. Just to let all the anonymous people here know :)

  18. Here's a few that I came up with

Polyamory: True love can happen more than once!

Polyamory: Finding your soul mate, and second, and third...

Nothing better on a cold day, than to keep warm in bed with your loves

Fall in love over and over again, without having to break up first! --Polyamory

  19. Your relationships. Your rules.

  20. "Love without limits."

    "Love Untied."

    "Love United."

"Open your heart again and again and again."

    "Love multiplies, not divides."

"I'm with him and him and her."

"Polyamory: learn it, live it, love it!"

    "Love to your hearts content."

"Love: no limits, no boundaries, no control."

"The heart is limitless: there is room for everyone."

  21. @kattails: How about, "Polyamory: Love untied is love united."

  22. My 5 year old bumper sticker reads:
    TRY POLYAMORY
    RELEASE YOUR INNER BONOBO.

Of course no one gets it and they have to ask. Which is the idea....

  23. For polyandry: "I love you guys"

I do really like the I<3>1, with its near symmetry, but I guess it IS obscure...

    I've seen these:

    Domesticated Bonobo
Poly, bi and kinky...and I still won't have sex with you.

  25. Love thy neighbors. Without lying to thy significant others.

  26. The satisfaction of being wanted far outweighs the security of being needed.

  27. I really wish there were more slogans for triads and Vs specifically leaning towards lesbians. Like I love my wife and her girlfriend, or three interlinked female symbols, or I am with her and her...you get my drift. I see a lot of slogans leaning towards a base hetero couple with a secondary BF or GF. Or how about a rainbow poly heart?

  28. Love is inclusive, not exclusive.

  29. I wanted to announce the winner of the contest here - in a vote by our membership at our June 28 meeting, "Open minds. Open hearts." beat out runner-up "Monogamy: is that a type of wood?" by one vote for the honor of being the first t-shirt slogan for Open Love NY.

Thank you to everybody for all your great suggestions!
