And now to the news. It's not all grim.

From Canada comes another big, if partial, legal win for polyfamily rights: ‘Multi-parent’ families, like throuples, to be granted legal rights in Quebec (CTV News, April 30)

By Rachel Lau

A recent ruling in Quebec has granted multi-parental families in the province the same legal rights as any other unit.

Diva Plavalaguna/pexels.com

A Quebec Superior Court judge ruled on [April 25] that limiting the legal affiliation of children to one or two parents is unconstitutional.

Lawyer Marc-André Landry, who represented one of the families involved in the case, explains the ruling does not apply to step-parents or other “modern” families that are formed after a child is born. Rather, it applies to a situation where a family has multiple adults involved in a relationship before the child’s conception.

In other words, Landry notes, the “parental project” needs to be in place prior to the child’s creation.

“It’s not about step-parents or other potential realities, it’s really about three people sitting together and saying, ‘We should have a child together,’ ” he explains. “No one should be treated differently because of their family status.”

Three families were part of the case.

The first constitutes a “throuple,” three adults – a man and two women – in a relationship, with four children among them.

The second involves a lesbian couple and a male donor who wished to be part of the child’s life as a father figure.

The third includes a woman living with infertility who allowed her husband to have a child with a friend, who asked to remain on as a mother.

“Those families do exist, no matter what people may think,” said Landry, calling the move a “major” change in our collective legal comprehension. “You have kids whose affiliation, from a legal standpoint, does not match their reality.”

Landry equates Friday’s ruling to the changing views of same-sex families during the 1980s and 1990s.

“It’s the same thing here. The law needs to evolve to match the reality of all Canadian citizens, and those babies who have not chosen to be born in multi-parental families. They must have the same protection, same rights as any other babies under the law.”

The Quebec government now has 12 months to amend the Civil Code to match the ruling.

 – As reported in the Daily Mail: Court grants THROUPLES the same legal rights as two-parent families (May 1)

...'In these times when the right to equality is savagely attacked, it feels good,' lawyer Marc-André Landry, who represented the plaintiffs, wrote after the ruling.

...'The families are overwhelmed with joy,' Landry told DailyMail.com. 'They are being recognized and treated equally which is important for them but also more important for their children. ...

"Toronto 'polycule', married couple Zoe and Rowan Knox with their lovers
Dani and Dame who were not part of the lawsuit."

–  Broader legal report: Quebec court recognises multi-parent families (International Comparative Legal Guide, May 1)

...Quebec now joins several Canadian provinces and territories that acknowledge multi-parent families. British Columbia allows up to three parents if there has been a written agreement prior to conception, while Ontario and Saskatchewan permit up to four parents regardless of conception methods. In Yukon, birth declarations can include "another parent" beyond the mother and father.

However, the practice has yet to catch on in most other jurisdictions, with California and Maine being the only US states to allow three-parent birth certificates in some cases.

Elsewhere, both South Africa and Washington, DC, permit three parents to be named where the child has been born by surrogacy while, in New Zealand, the law allows for multiple individuals to have parental status under certain surrogacy arrangements, but currently, only two parents can be listed on New Zealand birth certificates.

No European country allows for more than two parents to be registered on a child’s birth records, although discussions are currently ongoing.

The judgment builds on the provisions of Quebec’s Bill 2, introduced in 2021 and enacted in June 2022, which introduced comprehensive reforms to the province's family law, particularly concerning filiation and civil status.

...Traditional legal frameworks assume a two-parent model, but this no longer represents many lived realities, including families formed through surrogacy, same-sex parenting, step-parenting and polyamorous arrangements. In such families, multiple adults may share parental responsibilities and form emotional bonds with the child from birth. Denying legal recognition to all parental figures not only creates legal uncertainty, especially in areas such as inheritance, medical consent and custody, it is also unnecessarily cruel.

Unlike in the US these days, where often "the cruelty is the point."

And from New Zealand, Polyamorous throuple fight to keep their names on children’s birth certificates (New Zealand Herald, May 10)

...The Attorney-General’s crown counsel, Daniel Perkins, insisted the appeal wasn’t because of the family’s sexual orientation, but simply because it wasn’t possible to have more than two people listed in the system. ...

From Scotland, Firefighters’ union branch seeks rights for polyamorous people (The Times, UK, April 4)

The LGBT+ group within the union submitted a motion for discussion at the Scottish Trades Union Congress LGBT+ Workers’ Conference next month calling for the “stigma around polyamory to be challenged”.

“There are no legal protections for polyamorous people in Scotland, they can be discriminated [against] at work and in wider society,” it read.

The much-awaited Family and Relationship Structure Non-Discrimination Legislative Toolkit is new from the Harvard Law School LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic, in the face of Trump and his federal goons plowing up Harvard. It's a guide for activists and lawyers who want to pass local non-discrimination ordinances such as pioneered by Somerville, Cambridge, Oakland, and Berkeley.

This Legislative Toolkit is designed to advance non-discrimination protections for diverse family and relationship structures. It serves as a resource to empower individuals and organizations who are passionate about creating more inclusive communities through local policy change.

Available in a PDF version and a mobile-friendly version, it's a 55-page slide deck that explains legislative processes, how to build your local support and get legislative sponsors, how to get your procedural ducks in a row (avoid newbie errors; involve the city or town government's legal office before it comes to a vote), and otherwise learn from proven routes to success.

The project was co-produced with four other organizations:

25 Years of Polyamory in Cartoons comes from Genevieve (centered below) of the Chill Polyamory YouTube channel. It's the latest in her "non-monogamy in film & TV" category, rating "who's messy and who gets it right."

She did serious homework. She examines episodes from The Simpsons, Bojack Horseman, Bob's Burgers, Young Justice, Steven Universe, Big Mouth, She-Ra, Rick & Morty, Carol and the End of the World, and many more. She plots them on a two-axis grid: for treating poly as a joke vs. seriously, and stupidly vs. poly-savvy. The two axes turn out to be only weakly correlated. She's smart, quick, has professional chops as a TV and film producer, and promotes excellent ENM values. Running time 1 hour 10 minutes, fast-paced throughout.

She's also done 30 Years of Polyamory in Sitcoms (37 minutes).

Here's a heart-to-heart interview she had on Libby Sinback's "Making Polyamory Work": Community Care with Genevieve of Chill Polyamory (May 24, 2024). They go deep.

And finally, humor in The New Yorker: Films That Have Been Rewritten Now That Everyone Is Talking About Polyamory (March 19). It's behind a paywall, but a ctrl-a,c flycast catches the fish. Excerpts:

By Janet Manley and Sara C. Hahn

“Anne of Green Gables” (1985)
...Anne embodies the best of chosen-family life and quickly becomes “bosom friends” with another puff-sleeve-coded girl, Diana. Anne and Diana each marry their high-school sweethearts and stay on the island but, after a cordial-wine incident....

“Clueless” (1995)
An aspiring matchmaker sets up two teachers at her Los Angeles high school and, when romance blossoms, decides to make it more interesting by adding a third. ... Cracks begin to show between Ms. Geist, Mr. Hall, and Coach Stoeger. An epic dodgeball battle ensues. ...

“Troy” (2004)
After Paris falls in love with Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta, things almost come to blows, but everyone’s able to negotiate and agree that Helen can spend Tuesdays with Paris, and be with Theseus, Peneleos, Achilles, Deiphobus, and King Menelaus on the other nights of the week, but have Sundays to herself. It’s actually pretty nice to have some time apart and not feel completely beholden to a bunch of emotionally volatile men of Sparta.

“Love Actually” (2003)
...Anyway, it’s Christmastime, and everyone’s feeling flirty. ... [Eventually the situation] complicates things immensely for the couple’s therapist, who now has to fit three people into the forty-five-minute slot for the same price....

“Legends of the Fall” (1994)
On an isolated ranch in Montana, during the Second World War, a striking woman with untamed hair is brought to the homestead by her husband, the youngest brother of three. ... [Eventually] everyone agrees it would be best if she were to split her time between the haystack back at the ranch and her senator’s-wife life in Helena. ...

“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003)
Four brave, herb-smoking hobbits go on an epic journey to throw an evil ring into a volcano. ... With the ring destroyed, and trauma sustained, the triumphant hobbit wakes in his bed. The dropouts join him, and his primary looks on with a loving gaze. They all move into the most incredible, antique-filled burrow ever to exist in the Shire. No judgy hobbit can say anything, because they did save Middle-earth. ...

“Cast Away” (2000)
After the FedEx executive Chuck Noland crashes in the Pacific Ocean and washes ashore on a deserted island, the solo, poly businessman is very open to connecting with others. ... [learning how to make] clear enough smoke signals to convey what you want.

“Point Break” (1991)
...Can’t men figure this stuff out themselves? ... Bodhi, who runs the surfing gang and the Ex-Presidents, does not fall in love quite so easily, but a three-person romance begins to take shape. A game of flirtatious shark-and-surfer ensues.... [Eventually] they all handcuff themselves to one another and ride that wave. ...

And a public service announcement:

Saturday June 14 is No Kings Day nationwide!

It's shaping up as our biggest stand to save democracy yet.

June 14 is Trump's birthday. For the occasion (barely disguised by Flag Day and the US Army's anniversary), Trump will march his long-sought giant military parade through streets of the capital the way they do in Russia, China, and North Korea.

Trump says the parade will “blow everything away,” including the World Cup and the Olympics. The vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had this to say when Trump wanted the parade in his first term: “This is what dictators do.”

Dictators put on these displays not to impress foreign adversaries, who already know the military capabilities. The intended audience is the country's own subjects, who are supposed to be awed into quietude.

But in the US? At least 1,400 NO KINGS DAY rallies and events will also burst forth on June 14. Find yours here. Please show up for democracy's future.

Organizers ask: "Wave your flag like your life depended on it." Lots of American folx have more than one; there's still time to get your polyamory flag.

The centerpiece event of the day will be in Philadelphia, birthplace of American democracy. DC is deliberately being ignored.

● On Clickhole, Experts Warn That This Polyamorous Relationship Could Expand To Cover All Of Seattle By 2021 (July 12, 2017)

West Coasters... you’re going to want to be prepared. When Adam and Kelsie started dating outside of their relationship in 2014, few expected it would grow to involve more than some close friends and Tinder matches. Today, though, experts are warning that at its current rate of growth, their polyamorous relationship could expand to cover all of Seattle by 2021.

Folks, this is not a drill.

Adam and Kelsie first came to the attention of University of Washington researchers last year, when it was discovered that their dating network already extended through almost the entirety of Seattle’s circus arts community, and was rapidly encompassing its live lit scene. It soon became clear that between their book groups, Catan tournaments, Kelsie’s aerial silk classes, kink meet-ups, burner parties, and Adam’s job at Microsoft, the couple’s vectors for expansion were virtually limitless. ...

Still not convinced? Take a look at this chart tracking Adam and Kelsie’s rapidly expanding dating lives:

“As more and more individuals realize that love’s not some resource to hoard, I think we’re going to see a snowball effect,” said Dr. Eileen Callahan.... “You don’t want to be caught off guard.  Make a plan with your loved ones for if and when you discover that monogamy is an outmoded institution for the accumulation of property, and run regular drills.” ...

● This one, of course, gets rediscovered every Thanksgiving:

● And a classic from The Onion: I'm In An Open Relationship With The Lord:

By Bonnie Nordstrum, Polytheist

...It all started when I was 16 and first asked Jesus to enter my heart. It was incredible. He filled me up with His love.... Soon the honeymoon period ended, however. Whenever I spoke to Him, He seemed distracted and distant — sometimes I wondered if He was listening at all.... A few months later, I made a potentially disastrous discovery: I found out I wasn't the only one He was sanctifying.

...I was devastated. Here I had let Him into my soul in the most intimate way possible, and He had betrayed our personal bond by accepting the thanks and adulation of Sally, and God knows how many others as well. So I steeled myself... opened up my Bible, and confronted Him. In His divinely inspired scriptures, I learned that I hadn't driven Him to seek out others.... It was part of who He was.

...To be honest, I'd been flirting with polytheism all along by accepting the doctrine of the Trinity and simultaneously worshipping the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If I could see all three of them as viable deities, why not others?

...The Lord my God is a jealous God, and He didn't like the idea at first. He made it very clear that I should take no God before Him — but he never mentioned anything about taking one after Him!... So I've gone to Native American drum circles, New Age channeling workshops, and Shinto temples. I even spent a weekend in a no-holds-barred, worship free-for-all with two dozen Hindu gods! And now that I've opened myself up to exciting new spiritual experiences, our bond is stronger than ever.

Some may think it's strange, but I'm no longer worried about other people's unenlightened moralizing. My spiritual life is better then ever! I love God — heck, I love all of them — and I am one deeply, deeply fulfilled woman.

The whole thing. Post to friends and family if you dare.

New poly webcomic: "The Feeling is Multiplied"

The Feeling Is Multiplied has been going for four weeks now, and Blue Crow, Matthew Rainwater and Marco Padilla are planning for a long run.

Here's strip #1, starting the introductions (Jan. 11, 2015). As Blue explains in the backstory, this is the true story of a clinic visit after a bike crash.

They're putting up a new comic every Tuesday, and a new Sharing is Caring blogpost every Thursday. The strips so far are about their own homey life.

BTW, my occasionally-updated list of poly comics still gets hits eight years after I first put it up. Yes, I really should remake and repost it. So does anyone have a good current list of poly comics? Lemme know in the comments here, or write me at alan7388 {at} gmail.com.

The Onion: "Jewelry company jumps gun with engagement ring commercial featuring polyamorous triad"

Proof we're on the culture radar:

...Marketing experts told reporters Wednesday that jewelry retailer Zales had definitely jumped the gun with its new engagement-ring commercial featuring a polyamorous triad.... “Today’s consumers just aren’t ready to see a jewelry commercial like this,” said Venture Marketing brand consultant Caitlin Boyd regarding the new campaign, which depicts a man simultaneously proposing to his male and female co-primaries while presenting three identical gold engagement bands. “This could maybe fly in 15, 20 years, but TV viewers are going to need to see a number of other alternative relationships in engagement ring ads first: a non-monogamous heterosexual dyad, trans partners, at least a few biracial lesbian couples....” When reached for comment, a Zales representative stated that the rings, which are available in sets of three or more, can also be customized for polyamorous unions involving secondary, tertiary, or pivot partners.

Interview with the Kimchi Cuddles artist

When I saw the first Kimchi Cuddles comics last May it was love at first sight. The NRE has worn off, but the love has only deepened and grown. Today Louisa Leontiades, who runs the MultipleMatch.com blogazine, publishes an interview with the artist.

Interview with Kimchi Cuddles – Poly Awareness Through Comics

Tikva: It’s a funny story… I was in a relationship with a person and made a passive-aggressive complaint to him in the form of a comic. But it was a happy every after, because his response was that I am HILARIOUS and should immediately start a web comic about polyamory. Seriously I doubted. But I tried it anyway just to see, and I’m continually amazed by how much love and support I receive from strangers all over the world who read it daily....

...Have any of your friends had problems being depicted in your cartoons?

No, surprisingly. Even the person who Soliloquy is based on brags that she’s in the comic (she’s an ex-girlfriend of mine that I may have been mad at when making some of the comics). Most of the people who are depicted in the comic read the comic daily and enjoy it, and even email me suggestions/stories! It probably helps that I love all my exes and think they’re awesome....

How true to life is it?

All the characters are based on real people, and if you know any of them in real life it’s extra hilarious.... Kimchi is all me, but little pieces of me also exist in Nora, Lilly, and Marco....

Tikva, the real Kimchi

...Will you be publishing a cartoon book?

I hope to start a kickstarter (or something like that) to create some sort of coffee table book, hopefully before the spring....

(Interested in Xmas shopping for those other significant others in your life? Go to Kimchi Cuddles Shop.)

Read more, (Dec. 17, 2013). And here's the artist's own self-description.

Kimchi Cuddles: new poly comic

Kimchi Cuddles is a heartwarming new poly webcomic, just a couple weeks old. Artist Tikva has been doing two of them a day to build an archive fast. Examples:

She explains,

Most of the comics are based on my own experiences, but many are based on the experiences of friends of mine or from submissions from fans. See the “characters” section for bios of each main character.

My main goal for making this comic is to spread awareness about ethical nonmonogamy in a way that is hilarious. If you like what you see, check back often because I post 2 new comics a day! You can also follow me on Facebook for comics updates and interesting posts on similar subjects.

...None of the main characters are based one just one person. Most of them are a jumbled mix of people I’ve had romances with who have similar personalities to each other. Their appearances are also the result of me creepily Frankenstein-ing various lovers of mine together.

That doesn't count toddler Pumpkin, who's just one kid: "She’s that cute in real life too."

--------------------------

Lots more comics! For ages now I've been occasionally updating my collection of poly webcomics. What ones have I missed? Please add them to the comments.

Pedestrian Polyamory: "LIVE from Atlanta Poly Weekend!"

I had a grand time at Atlanta Poly Weekend last month. This was APW's third year, and attendance topped 200. I got to give the closing keynote talk. And I met a whole lot of great new people. (Hi all!)

Among them was Shira B. Katz of the Pedestrian Polyamory and Life on the Swingset podcasts. On Saturday night she drew a lively crowd into a too-small meeting room to do an extra special episode of Pedestrian Polyamory. She set up her recording gear and called a bunch of us up to chat, then closed by turning over the floor to the poly-themed comedian Chris "CJ" Wells, an up-and-comer who hails from Carrboro, North Carolina, that enclave of good weirdness next to UNC.

Shira and her primary Gavin Katz have finally gotten the episode up. Listen or download here. This is Episode #45, "LIVE from Atlanta Poly Weekend" (April 5, 2013).

Shira B. Katz
The people she brings onstage are

● Wes of the Philadelphia quint who were featured on Lisa Ling's "Our America" TV show the previous week

● Puck, a genderqueer pansexual good person from Open Love NY

● Me (I come on at 23:45)

● Shaun of the Philadelphia quint, an atheist activist who heads up the Polyskeptic blog

● Horrible Ogre

● Gina and Jessie of the Philadalphia group; as you might guess, all five of them were stars of the convention after their stunning TV debut.

Chris "CJ" Wells
Then she brought on CJ Wells. He begins his act at 51:40. We were expecting some amateur standup from a con-goer — and soon found ourselves in the presence of a pro. It takes a lot to make me laugh, but by the end I was flowing right down out of my chair. Watch this guy, he's going places.

Wrote co-producer Gavin Katz (who was stuck back home in San Francisco), "Holy cow, berries! Such a great show!"

The whole episode is 1:18:27 long. Listen to it on your commutes.

The next morning, with a much smaller group of people who'd made it out of bed, Shira recorded a more subdued podcast on the Sunday-morning-like topic of impermanence — as in Buddhist non-attachment philosophy — in relation to relationships. After all, every deep relationships you will ever have will end, and very few of them by death doing you part. How good are you and your exes? Polyfolks tend to be a little different in this regard. The episode isn't up yet; watch for it. UPDATE JUNE 17th: They finally got it posted; listen here.

P.S.: Here's another attendee's take on APW; see his five entries for March 2013.

P.P.S.: For more poly conventions, gatherings, etc. scheduled for the coming year, see ALAN'S LIST of POLYAMORY EVENTS. Pass it on.

"Man Man Beaver"

After Showtime's Polyamory: Married and Dating, we wondered what Hollywood's next shot at a poly TV series would look like.

Here's the unexpected answer. It's pretty cringe-worthy, but funny:

Man Man Beaver is a cartoon series about a gay MMB group-married triad. It was created by Josh Sugarman and Brandon Yankowitz, the pair behind the movies Trophy Kids and the upcoming Dear Friends, With Love. They're introducing it only as a webcast, and with what I'd call beta-test production values for Episode 1, but they say they hope to sell it to a major cable network.

Official blurb:

Following California's legalization of gay marriage and, logically then, every conceivable sexual pairing and so-called perversion, a "couple" comprised of two gay men and a man-sized, talking beaver relocate into the state to finally live openly and take on idiocy and narrow-minded buffoonery each week...all while surviving the unique challenges of their married life. An animated satire series.

From the announcement press release:

Tom Arnold to join All Star Talent in 'Man Man Beaver;' Gay Marriage Was Never Like This Before

YaSu Media is proud to the announce that legendary comedian Tom Arnold headlines the all-star cast of "Man Man Beaver," as the voice of Beaver, an acerbic, politically active gay mammal fighting for the right to marry both of his biracial gay male companions.

“Man Man Beaver” is the World's first animated cartoon series following the adventures of a Polyamorous Beaver and his marriage to lovers Thomas and Julian, whose voices are portrayed by Sam Seder and Nathan Lee Graham respectively. The first episode is available for viewing at www.ManManBeaver.com.

Inspired by Rick Santorum's comment about gay marriage being one small step away from bestiality and polygamy, "Man Man Beaver" takes that step down the aisle as a political satire series about a Bi-racial Gay Couple and an angry and disorderly Beaver who seek to live in holy matrimony (yes, all three of them) and become entangled with the world of problems facing such a diverse union. In the pilot episode "I'm With The Black Guy", Beaver's lover Julian, who happens to be African American, runs against Mitt Romney in his next campaign: to be the mayor of the small town of Gay Street. Predictably, mayhem ensues.

Series preview (1:26):

And here's the 50-second intro that looks like it'll start each episode:

"Man Man Beaver" is the brainchild of Co-Creaters Josh Sugarman and Brandon Yankowitz of YaSu Media.... They are producing the series with an eye towards placement on a major cable network similar to the success of "Sanctuary" (SyFy), which started life as a groundbreaking web series.

"With a positive message, 'Man Man Beaver' tells us to stand up for our rights," said star Sam Seder. Seder is the producer and host of Majority Report and is a political comedian well-known from hosting four hit shows on Air America as well as being as a frequent guest host for Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. Seder regularly appears as a pundit for CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC.

Nathan Lee Graham is an American cabaret artist, stage, television and film actor, singer, writer and director. His roles in feature films include Todd in "Zoolander", Frederick Montana in "Sweet Home Alabama" and Geoff in "Hitch".

A project with a purpose, "Man Man Beaver" is as much about supporting the struggle for equal rights across the nation as it is about being funny, fresh and subversive every single week.

Series Launch Date: November 6, 2012

Just for Thanksgiving giggles...

...in the style of Gary Larsen:

Source and credits.

(Okay, okay: turducken.)

Some more Thanksgiving fun: a coordinator of the Madison Area Polyamory Society in Wisconsin writes,

Since our next discussion group will be happening a couple of days before Thanksgiving, I thought it might be fun to talk about gratitude and fun things. In that spirit, we'll be looking at a fun post by Joreth, of The Inn Between, that started in Twitter and grew. Completions, playful and otherwise, to the following:

You know you're poly when...

We'll be looking at some of the responses and adding our own, as well as talking about what we're thankful for this Thanksgiving, with a special look at polyamory.

There are dozens of entries already.

Elsewhere, on his Saturnia Regna list Dave Doleshal recounts some early American history (sorry, can't find his article online) of a highly sex-positive and poly-related nature from right around the time and place of the first Thanksgivings: Ann Hutchinson vs. John Cotton and the implied background; Thomas Morton, Merry Mount, and its Maypole.... The latter episode, as Nathaniel Hawthorne later wrote, marked a cusp "when jollity and gloom were contending for an empire" — and the Puritans won. As a result, key elements are considered inappropriate for schoolbooks today. It could have come out differently.

Dinosaur Comics on poly pros and cons

Poly philosophizing returns to Dinosaur Comics today. The thing with Dinosaur Comics, if you're not aware, is that the exact same artwork appears every day. Only the dialog changes. Author Ryan North has kept this up for 1,930 issues now.

Much later: And another Dinosaur Comics, #2528.

And oh yeh, here's my long-running roundup of other poly comics (warning, contains a few dead links). Know of more strips? Leave suggestions and links in the comments there.

Poly Trio on "The Daily Show"

Jon Stewart was voted most trusted newscaster in America in an unscientific online poll — except he's not a newscaster, he's a comedian. If you were watching "The Daily Show" Thursday night, you saw him host a snarky report on the anti-gay-marriage characters in Texas who want to keep gays from divorcing — and the scene cuts to a traditional MF married couple by contrast, but they turn out to be poly, and end up in bed as a threesome. Watch it here (SFW). (In Canada watch here.) The poly bit begins at 3:10.

Reporter Jason Jones: What is the secret to marriage?

Joy Reagan, wife in traditional-looking couple: The secret to marriage is communication. Being able to tell your partner anything and everything and having total trust.

Jones: And what does your girlfriend think about all this?

Camera pans to include third hand-holder on the couch, who says: I'm completely comfortable with the whole thing. George and Joy have a great marriage, and I'm really happy to just be occasionally a part of that.

The lights go down and by the end we see them in bed, groping and three-way kissing.

A discussion broke out on the LiveJournal Polyamory community. "I think there was some humorous poly-exploitation going on," wrote ambiguousex. "I'm just curious if other people found it funny or offensive or both or neither." Replied tantricaquarian, "Perhaps they need to laugh at us before they can accept us." And nonmonogamous wrote, "It pokes fun, but I don't think it's debasing or overtly negative. I'm happy thinking that just that little snippet might have planted the idea of the possibility of consensual nonmonogamy in the head of even just one person who never thought of it before."

Are we getting noticed or what?

See comments by Anita Wagner; by Robyn Trask.

Update! The married poly couple on the show, Joy and George Reagan, tell about their experiences being filmed. See comment #4 below.

Web Comic Presents Excellent Poly Saga

Fans!

Two years ago I rounded up some web comics treating polyamory. Even now that post keeps getting hits.

So here's another. The long-running "Fans!" has begun a storyline exploring a new-forming triad, complete with Heinlein and Wonder Woman references. It's a flashback explaining how three key characters got together. It helps to know who they are: flamboyant emo goth bondage girl with heart of gold, maybe; sweet little anime artist, a runaway from Japan; all-American Christian college kid, thinks he's Archie. Pick it up from here, and keep clicking the forward arrow. The first three pages are pre-flashbacks to set the mood for each character. God knows where this is heading.

But the artist knows what he's doing. As the story develops he's touching one poly reality base after another.

(Warning, bits may be slightly NSFW. Here's the artist's fan forum. Here's day one, long ago and far away. An' thanks to Anyee f' th' tip!)

Update: If you want to make sense of the June 4th strip, "Home," the first three panels (with their earlier drawing styles) are flashbacks:

http://www.faans.com/index.php?p=1339
http://www.faans.com/index.php?p=347
(Thanks to AvalonXQ for the tip.)

Update: It just gets better. The storyline reaches its end on June 29th, having completed the tale. Rikk with a beard means that we've jumped forward to present time.

This'll be a poly-comic classic. Pass it on.
